Double
Stage Faraday Isolators

Single-stage isolators providing an extinction ratio
of > 30 dB are sufficient for most applications including fiber coupling
or resonator alignment. For high-power lasers and optical amplifiers
however, a double-stage isolator with reverse isolation > 60 dB has to be
used. These are two Isolators in tandem on a common base, sharing a
common center Polarizer. Isolation is doubled and transmittance is reduced
to approximately the squared value. Net rotation can be ordered to be
0° or 90°. All surfaces are AR-coated for maximum transmittance.
We can fine-tune the isolators to provide maximum
transmission (> 90% per stage) and at the same time maximum extinction
at any wavelength in region 0.8- 1.15 µm. Available clear apertures
are between 3 and 12 mm. Double Stage Isolators have output polarization
in the same plane as the input, or optionally at 90°.
